You know what? For now I'm just throwing this info on here about hair, skin and 1 type of blood. I'll neaten it later. If anything seems really contradictory, blame it on the fact I was writing while I had music going, which is not helpful to me for anything but drawing. lol

Hair, Skin Coloration & Façade-blood[]

In most cases, the hair of an Ellgish being is quite long, though not in all cases.

Blood to the scalp is quite powerful, and the nerve endings in the skin and deep into the muscle are even more extensive with most individuals than a standard human being’s.

Because of this, the roots of the hair have special sensitivities, as does the scalp. When in prepubescent years, the length the hair is left in will greatly effect hair growth in adulthood.

If a child’s hair is kept trimmed and light, the scalp will become accustomed to a very specific weight applied to the nerves in the skin, and as the child matures, the hair will naturally grow continually to the general weight of hair per inch of scalp. Thus, the short-haired child will become a short-haired adult, or a long-haired child will become a long haired adult.

Reversing or changing this process is not always easy, but is possible in most cases. Removal of extra hair requires constant and daily trimming, as the roots will produce hair nearly as quickly as the Ellgish ability to regenerate after injury. The scalp will feel a lessening of notable weight and soon compensate. It is also possible to trim hair regularly and in small degrees so as to lessen shock that triggers production.

Growing hair longer that already exists on the body is more laborious and requires an act of constant “stroking” to regularly stimulate the roots into producing more. Even some individuals with a nervous habit of rubbing their face too much around the chin or jaw, constantly, or their hair, will begin to gradually grow more.

Replacement of hair through gradual shedding happens at least as often to Ellgish as it does humans, though with some individuals, at least twice as often.

Unusual hair colors, such as violet, fuchsia or blue, often coincide with the coloration of the “façade” blood, which is only located beneath the skin to add pigment to the skin. In some individuals, very rarely, the unusual color will not match the hair, and will be the result of a process similar in concept to pseudo-albinism, where the entire individual will be white, but the eyes may be dark instead of red or blue.

For Ellgish, pigmented façade-blood is the results of a genetic chromatiphore that in most cases is predisposed to be the same color as the father’s. Variation will often occur from the mother’s DNA that will confuse the usual chemical triggers, resulting in an altered explosion of color that the cells cannot properly correct or compensate for quickly enough as the fetus develops. As the cells cannot identify the problem, they continue to their usual processes as best they can. Often, the unusually colored individual will grow up with another feature that compensates in some other way to help protect the body from what may be a potentially problematic flaw.

In roughly half of the individuals with hair of an unusual color, the body seems to accept the color with no compensation, though this is more common for the eldest of the species.

In many examples, façade blood will not even be present spread beneath the skin as it should be, and will instead, develop only at the roots of hair, and feed more color than usual to what may be a natural color to humanoids.

Below are examples of variation between individuals:

Redmayne: Dominant façade-blood (Common)

Different than merely ‘full’, his body can produce mass amounts of Red façade-blood, and can consume the material again with little difficulty between his forms. This is common with Ellgish that possess a very scaled and plated Ellgon form, where the color gathers boldly in the toughened sections. In a Dekan form, the red subsides, but still gives his skin a very delicate and sensitive pink color, while his hair remains bold. w/o façade: Auburn

Durrak: Full façade-blood (Common)

His façade blood is a bold blue and spread evenly and appropriately, as well as being prominent in his roots. His resulting hair is the same blue. Across his back and atop his limbs are spotted lightly with blue at the surface, as well as edging his slight scaling. In Dekan form, his skin becomes a pale, whitish hue while his hair remains nearly fully blue. Without the façade, his hair would be black to raven blue and his skin alabaster.

Roggure: Limited Façade-blood (Uncommon)

His skin lacks the thin layer of colored blood under his pale skin, and the result is that his skin is a bold gray from his black true-blood. The façade-blood only resides at his roots, thus making his hair incredibly red and brilliant. As Roggure is unusually very hairy all over, he has a great deal of the façade-blood to support the color in those specific locations. Only when he shifts into humanoid form and loses most of this hair can the surface blood spread and give his skin a slightly more humanoid fleshy color. Without the façade, his hair would be auburn and his skin a pale, pinkish hue, prone to slight tanning with light freckles.

David: Tainted/Mutation façade-blood (Singular)

While David remains in Dekan form most of the time and often denied several bodily processes in the past, it is possible that his already unusual circumstances for existing added to his unusual blood processes. While being related somewhat directly to Durrak and Redmayne, his façade-blood should be dominant as well as full, and technically it is. In Dekan form, his skin remains pale and lightly colored with his body’s color of blue, though it is mixed with his black true-blood. The two mix beneath his skin and give him a sickly pale grey-blue appearance and never fully separate. This aspect likely came about as a result of his lack of a womb-grown birth, and how he came to be from a source of true-blood. He is one of the few Ellgish that can manipulate his body into a fleshy, liquid form and back again. In Ellgon form, his body is fully plated, and the resulting scales are dominated by his black blood, only accented by blue. This gives him an almost navy blue appearance. Having his true-blood so close to the surface of his skin provides him with excellent regenerative capabilities and augmentation of his own body. Without the façade, his hair would be nearly the same, raven blue as it is, and his skin would be alabaster.

Hinannon: Mottled/Mutation façade-blood (Uncommon)

Full of strange little genetic flaws, though still generally healthy, his façade blood is a miasma of colors in sporadic places under his skin. Though the majority of his skin is a powder blue, it seems to be stained in such a color more than covering a supply of blue. Much of his body is mottled with varying examples, and it seems as if what once might have been blue at some point has battled a color red, which has left him with am unsettlingly bright shade of fuchsia. It is possible that while he was a child, his body attempted to incorporate more humanoid features, such as red blood and strongly human facial features, though inevitably his body attempted to compensate with a genetically proper Ellgish color. The result consists of a strange inability to properly absorb all production of red blood cells, which inevitably roam his system like a disease. Even the sclera of his eyes are plagued with it; the surface appears smoothly red, though it is really a place of regularly deposited red blood. His Ellgish blood has failed to solve these problems since birth, and it has even effected the way his brain functions, almost entirely eradicating his ability to understand his species genetically-inherited language. Without the façade, his hair would be light Auburn to ginger and his skin a healthy white/peach.

Bill: Charmed façade-blood (Singular/Specialized/Rare)

Born with an unnatural hindrance to some of his body’s early growth, puberty was not as detrimental to his mental state as he changed. Puberty was gradual, unlike most Ellgish, which maintained much of his sanity and logic over the years. While his body retained very humanoid organs and blood, their gradual reversion to his species form, somehow redesigned their intended workings and processes. The result was red blood at the surface instead of façade-blood, and healthy tanned skin and the ability to withstand bright sunlight. Because of this, bill will bleed red blood in shallow wounds instead of façade-blood. The Façade-blood he does have was only produced in small amounts, and appeared as a cooperative coloration to his human-like and partially scaled skin, effectively making him a proper hybrid compared to all other Ellgish. This also applies to his hair, which only gained small amounts of color. The core of his body still functions as Ellgish, and actually helps to enhance the genetic charm to amplify some of his abilities. As his mind is not fraught with feral instincts, his very much Ellgish brain is more calculating and busy than most. Without the façade at all, his hair would just be chocolate brown, his skin a very healthy tan and his eyes a modest green.

More WIP. Here, have a picture.

Well...crap. I forgot to clean that up too. MESSY PICTURE IS MESSY.
